KAMO shrine in Keihoku
Built more than 1,000 years ago, Kamo Shrine stands quietly among the forests of rural Kyoto.
Surrounded by towering cedar trees and untouched nature, the shrine offers a peaceful atmosphere that feels far removed from modern life. Walking through its ancient grounds, many visitors say it feels like stepping into a scene from a Studio Ghibli film.

- Visiting the historical thatched roof house village(Miyama thatched village)
- Hidden place called KAMO shrine

- Night fireflies viewing (from beginning-June to end-June only)

Special Seafood Tour
The fish market is closed on Wednesday
Join us on a journey to the nearby coast, where we handpick the freshest seasonal fish and seafood directly from local markets.
After returning to Tokuheian, we prepare and enjoy sashimi and sushi together using ingredients selected that very day. This experience offers a unique opportunity to discover Japanese food culture through fresh, locally sourced seafood.
On the way back, we can also visit the famous Miyama Thatched Village, one of Japan’s most beautiful traditional countryside destinations.

Takimata Waterfall Trek
Hidden deep within the mountains of Keihoku, Takimata Waterfall is one of the region’s best-kept secrets.
Rarely visited, even by local residents, this peaceful destination offers a refreshing escape into nature. The trail to the waterfall takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours and winds through beautiful forests, clear streams, and tranquil mountain scenery.

Miyama Thatched Village
Just a 30-minute drive north of Keihoku lies Miyama, one of Japan’s most picturesque countryside villages.
Famous for its beautifully preserved thatched-roof houses, Miyama offers a glimpse into the traditional rural lifestyle that has existed for centuries. Surrounded by mountains and nature, it is one of the best places to experience the timeless charm of old Japan.
Zen Temple (Joshokoji)
Joshokoji Temple is renowned for its beautiful gardens, which change with the seasons and offer stunning scenery throughout the year.
Founded in the 14th century, the temple has a rich history connected to Emperor Kogon, who retired to Keihoku and spent his later years here as a Buddhist monk. Today, visitors can experience the peaceful atmosphere of the temple, admire its historic architecture, and reflect in a setting filled with tranquility and spiritual heritage.
Firefly Watching (Seasonal Experience)
During the rainy season in June, the countryside of Keihoku comes alive with the magical glow of fireflies.
Thanks to the region’s clean rivers, fresh mountain air, and rich natural environment, hundreds of fireflies can be seen dancing through the night on favorable evenings. This seasonal spectacle is one of the most memorable experiences of early summer in rural Kyoto.

Together, we will prepare simple and healthy Japanese home-style dishes using fresh seasonal ingredients. Depending on the season, you may also harvest vegetables from our garden or visit a local farmers’ market to select ingredients before cooking.
More than just a meal, this experience offers an opportunity to learn about Japanese food traditions, local ingredients, and the joy of sharing a meal together.

Agriculture Experience
Experience Life on a Japanese Farm
Step into the daily life of rural Japan through a hands-on farming experience.
Depending on the season, you may help prepare the fields, harvest fresh vegetables, and learn about traditional farming practices that have supported local communities for generations.
We have also planted over 60 grapevines, and we hope to begin harvesting grapes in early autumn. Every season offers different activities and opportunities to connect with nature.
